So you're stuck here -- you can't wait around too long scoping out the situation. If you don't act soon it'll seem like it took you took long to scare up your courage, and that's bad. That's why I would try to meet up with her again under any circumstance, even if it's artificial, and make a direct play. That seems like your best shot to me.

Dating Divorced Women:
Derek,
Thanks for your response. I will probably be hitting you with a few questions, since I am eager to learn tips for dating a woman. Maybe some of the questions you get will end up in your next book.
This summer, after reading your tips for dating a woman, I managed to get out alone with a great looking divorced woman from work (we are located in different towns). We had a wonderful night. I did everything right. We ended up making out. The next week, we exchanged emails. She was a little unsure what to make of it, but seemed still interested. I set up another outing. Long story short, between her ex making her feel miserable about going with me while he watched their kid, and me coming on too strong, I got her pissed off.
The next day I emailed her to smooth things out. She told me that she had no romantic interest in me, but that things were OK. I still hear from her, and she seems interested me at least as a person, but she will refer to us as 'friends'. My question is, in situations like this, can I manage to start something again, or am I in the 'friend' category for life. If I should go for it, how do I go about it? Did I not apply your tips for dating a woman wrong?
I'm glad you've been trying to apply my tips for dating a divorced woman. Well, just in this case, you're pretty much a sunk sailor.
First, what do you mean "I did everything right"?
So you make out and then you exchange emails. You're backtracking! You should be calling her. NO EMAIL.
How did you come on too strong? You emailed her?? Oh god. Bad. This is probably a terminal case in terms of tips for dating a woman, but your email is too vague for me to help you much. Probably best learn from your mistakes and move on.
Besides, if her ex is hassling her, she's probably not independent of him yet. Sounds like a mess of a situation to me... you probably don't want to get involved in that.
Regards,
Derek
